BP Sail & Spell app for iPhone and iPad

This app is designed to help you learn the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet (aka NATO Phonetic Alphabet). If you are a sailor, you will need to know this alphabet and use it every time you communicate by radio. In other words, you will need to know it by heart. Since many letters and sounds are easily confused or distorted by background noise during telephone or radio conversations, it is also very useful to know this alphabet whenever you need to spell out your name, email address etc.

The app consists of two major screens: Learn, and Practice. On the Learn screen you can tap any letter and learn the correct pronunciation of the corresponding Phonetic Alphabet word. On the Practice screen, you can practice spelling randomly selected words with the help of Breezy the Parrot.
Breezy will point to a letter and you are supposed to say the corresponding word in the Phonetic Alphabet out loud . If Breezy recognizes it, she will write it next to the letter. You can try as many times as you like, but there is a small score penalty for each unsuccessful attempt. If you cannot remember the correct word, you can always ask Breezy for help by tapping his icon. Breezy will say the word for you and write it next to the letter. The score penalty in this case will be a little bigger, since Breezy has to do all the work for you. After you guess the last letter, Breezy will evaluate your performance.

The most important thing is not treating this app too seriously. It is not meant to prepare you for the sailor licence exam. It is just an app to have fun and FUN is the key here. We hope that you will have a good time with our app and with Breezy the Parrot.
